INEOS Pigments manufactures TiO2 and TiCl4 via the chloride process a site in Ashtabula, Ohio in the US. Within the Pigments business, European sales account for 10% of the total volume sold (Total Budget 2025 207,000 MT). As a small player in the European market (less than 2% market share) the goal in Europe is to select and develop customers who appreciate INEOS Pigments’ product quality and will pay above average prices for our product offer and service.
Customer selection is key and it takes time to develop a supply relationship as we sample, test and approve the product in customer formulations. Target customers are in the coatings and plastics market across Europe. An existing base of customers has already been established and the goal is to keep and grow volumes at these customers. A key role is to develop new business at new accounts who meet our target criteria.
INEOS Pigments has a network of distributors across Europe and the sales manager will need to support and develop this channel with regular meetings and joint customer visits. Successful management of the distribution channel is a key driver for our business strategy.
INEOS Pigments has an established product offer which is well known in the market. New products are in the pipeline due to regulatory changes and these will need to be introduced and then transitioned into the market in the coming year.
Titanium dioxide is a high spend and strategic raw material for many customers and the sales manager will need to keep up to date with industry developments and present, discuss and debate this with customers.
There are a number of key global competitors – Chemours, Tronox, LomonBillions, Kronos and Venator and this makes the market very competitive. The market is also driven by supply and demand and price can fluctuate depending on GDP growth. The role must adapt to changes in the market and manage the commercial agenda, deliver the budget volume and margin and manage the interactions with sales teams / supply chain / manufacturing teams.
REACH and regulatory compliance plays an increasing role in the testing and approval of titanium dioxide and the job holder will need to have an appreciation and understanding of such matters and its impact on the market.
The job holder is expected to manage sales at a wide range of customers in terms of product application and geographical split. The role demands knowledge and understanding of a broad range of business activities including financial, technical, production, commercial and environmental issues relating to the target market sectors and customer base.
- Ensure all job role activities are completed in a safe manner and safety standards are adhered to at all times.
- Manage, develop and grow the targeted territory to agreed monthly and annual volume and revenue targets
- Participate in strategy development activities to ensure continued success for the European business.
- Provide accurate and timely forecasts for volume and revenue
- Qualify new opportunities, develop pricing strategies, propose, present and close new business.
- Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual sales volume planning activities
- Negotiate prices on a monthly/quarterly basis to achieve the agreed price and margin targets
- Manage designated distributors to achieve volume and price objectives
- Provide timely competitive market intelligence. Responsible for existing customer retention, success and maintaining high levels of service.
- Establish and foster relationships at the appropriate level of prospective accounts.
- Close collaborator with the internal teams, providing innovative ideas for business growth and development as well as key account management activities.
- Complete all necessary documentation and SAP updates to ensure full reporting and accurate billing.
